CTIAR Code of Conduct

Standards of professional behavior for all CTIAR conferences, events, and affiliated activities.

Overview

Purpose & Scope

Approved on January 28, 2019, this Code of Conduct applies to all conferences, networking activities, and online discussions organized by the Canadian Technology Institute for Academic Research (CTIAR).

CTIAR events aim to advance research, education, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative environment for all participants.

CTIAR welcomes individuals who promote mutual respect, professional integrity, and inclusive participation.

Standards

Expected Behavior

Treat all participants with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
Engage professionally regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, physical appearance, religion, disability, or any other characteristic.
Communicate thoughtfully and constructively in both in-person and online environments.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and welcoming atmosphere.

Prohibited

Unacceptable Conduct

Abusive, racist, sexist, homophobic, or intimidating behavior.
Aggressive actions, bullying, or deliberate intimidation.
Disrupting presentations or scheduled events.
Unwelcome sexual attention or inappropriate physical contact.
Displaying sexually explicit or racially insensitive materials.
Encouraging, enabling, or tolerating any prohibited behavior.

Responsibility

Community Obligations

All individuals, organizations, sponsors, and entities participating in CTIAR events are required to comply with this Code of Conduct.

Participants are encouraged to address inappropriate behavior when encountered and to support a culture of accountability and respect. Anyone asked to stop inappropriate conduct must comply immediately.

Enforcement

Reporting & Actions

CTIAR representatives may take immediate action to address violations.
Violators may be removed temporarily or permanently from an event.
Serious violations may be referred to local law enforcement.
Complaints are reviewed by a subcommittee of the CTIAR Executive Council.
Membership termination may occur in accordance with CTIAR Bylaws (Article VI, Section 6).
